A crate is the quickest and easiest way to “house train” your puppy because canines will not “go” in the area where they sleep. Toilet training begins as soon as you bring your puppy home usually 8 weeks of age and can take anywhere from a couple of days to about 3 weeks. If your pup has an accident in his kennel, in most cases this is because the kennel is either too large, or your puppy was left in the kennel too long.

Place an old towel or blanket with your scent on it inside for bedding. Do not use a dog pad or bed until your puppy has outgrown accidents and chewing.

I was talking to a lady today who had a concern about the amount of water her dog was drinking. She said could this mean that my dog has diabetes. I replied that I wasn’t sure, because I am not a vet, but I said it may be worth having her dog checked out medically. Then I had a thought…”How much water does your dog drink?” I asked. “Oh, well when I give it a cereal bowl full it seems to drink it straight away.” She said.

The dog is not diabetic it just needs more water. It is just thirsty. Your dog should have access to a continuous supply of water. A good size bucket that allows the dog to drink without running out.

Plenty of fresh clean water. All the time.

What impact does taking your puppy to a “Puppy Preschool” have on its long term behaviour. It can be positive if the classes are taught correctly but it can also have a negative effect if the instructor does not understand the different temperaments of the pups involved.
